Los Angeles, California, January 22, 2019 —  SKIN the short film directed by Guy Nattiv and produced by Jamie Ray Newman received an Academy Award nomination for Best Live-Action Short film today. The 20-minute short was a proof of concept film for the feature length movie of the same name that was acquired by A24/DirecTV at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The film was selected from a total of 120 entries, named to a shortlist of ten films, and nominated as one of five films that will compete for the Oscar. New Native Pictures in association with Studio Mao was the company producing Skin.

Skin the short follows the lives of Jeffery (Jonathan Tucker), Christa (Danielle Macdonald) and their son Troy (Jackson Robert Scott). After spending the day shooting guns and relaxing at the lake with several white supremacist friends, they head home together stopping at a grocery store. Jeffrey is irate when Jaydee (Ashley Thomas), an African-American man is friendly to Troy. Jaydee’s innocent act results in bloodshed and a horrible gang war ensues.

The Oscars 2019 air live Sunday, February 24 at 8e|5p on ABC.
