New York, NY., July 1, 2015– American Splendor producers Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini are back in force with Ten Thousand Saints a film set in 1980’s New York City during the peak of the punk rock scene. An incredible cast stars Ethan Hawke, Asa Butterfield, Hailee Steinfeld, Emile Hirsch and Emily Mortimer as a family that all seems to come of age mentally in the movie.

Jude—named after a Beatles song by his hippie parents—spends his high school days in small-town Vermont getting high with his best friend, Teddy. Beneath Jude’s mind-numbing activities lurks a desire to reconnect with his estranged father, Les, who abandoned the family when Jude was nine. Desperate to keep her son out of trouble, Jude’s mother sends him to live with Les in New York City. In the roiling and raw East Village, Jude struggles to establish an identity within the cultural upheaval downtown and forms an unlikely surrogate family with Teddy’s straight-edge brother and a troubled, rich uptown girl.

1980’s New York City is recreated in “Ten Thousand Saints” by production designer Stephen Beatrice and costume designer Suttirat Anne Larlarb who take the film from CBGB’s on the Lower East Side (LES) to the 1988 riots in Thompkins Square Park. “Ten Thousand Saints” captures New York at a moment of change, running parallel to the rise of AIDS, the yuppie invasion and gentrification, and exploring a shift in the counterculture through Jude, who finds a way to rebel against his laid-back, pot-dealing dad in the straight-edge movement (no drugs, no alcohol, no promiscuity).

“Ten Thousand Saints” was produced by Maven Pictures, Archer Gray and Luca Borghese, in association with Bad Medicine Films, Raptor Films, and Tashtego Films.
